Kurt Glitner
Doom-of-Folly

Athro of the Get of Fenris
Forseti of the Fangs of Shale
The Eye of Mjolnir's Thunder
Assistant Master of the Challenge of the Sept of the Moon Lake

Description

Homid: ~Tall, dark, and handsome -- Kurt Glitner embodies that cliché. Well, perhaps he isn’t a handsome man, but he dresses well, stands tall, and smiles affably. Doesn’t confidence often define attraction for men? In his mid-30s, Kurt still seems healthy and strong. The Caucasian gentleman’s features are a tad weather worn, but it serves to crease his smile further. His blue eyes shine bright and sharp, ever-watchful of the surroundings, boasting a sheen of hawk-like intent. He prefers semi-casual attire: slacks, loafers, and a sweater or Polo shirt. His short brown hair, boasting some natural blond highlights, sweeps past his brow and is trimmed short otherwise. Kurt’s inquisitive expression, observant gaze, and too-friendly attitude suggests he’s a police officer…or at least in the same business. The scent of whiskey on his person implies he’s a P.I., but how cliché would that be?~

Glabro: ~Kurt fills out his clothing with greater bulk and muscle. He gains His flesh is covered in more hirsute hair, his hair grows shaggy, and his eyes gleam fiercely. His hands open and close in tight fists, as the man stands ready to pound anyone in his path.~

OOC: Appearance 1; Pure Breed 1; Glory 5, Honor 9, Wisdom 7

Crinos: ~All clothing vanishes, and Kurt springs to nine feet tall. Nine feet and several hundred pounds of monstrous fury, claws, and teeth. A white carpet of smooth fur covers the werewolf, ending in bone-white, razor-tipped claws. The lupine head boasts terrifying teeth and wolven bright-blue eyes, blazing with the doom of folly all enemies face.~

OOC: Appearance 0; Pure Breed 1; Delirium; Glory 5, Honor 9, Wisdom 7

Hispo: ~Like the dire wolves of old, Kurt assumes this shape to harry and chase down those whose cowardice demands they futilely flee. Much like the crinos, but strictly quadrapel, this killing machine is no less terrifying, and his howl is no less eerie and inspiring.~

OOC: Appearance 0; Pure Breed 1; Glory 5, Honor 9, Wisdom 7

Lupus: ~White fur, blue eyes, sharp teeth, and a hungry howl paint the image of this keen animal. There is nothing good or evil about the wolf: it just is, in nature and in life. In this primal form, Kurt stalks prey of all stripes.~

OOC: Appearance 2; Pure Breed 1; Glory 5, Honor 9, Wisdom 7

"Life isn’t all black and white? There…there’s a splash of crimson, too. Thank you for the illumination."

History

Youth

A Half-Moon child, Kurt Glitner was brought onto Gaia in Freiburg, East Germany. His father was Trueborn and his mother Kin, and neither wanted their son to be raised in Communist Germany. Within the year, his parents smuggled themselves and their infant out of the nation into France. From there, a flight brought the family to the promised land of freedom: America. Their search for home began on the East Coast but by the age of two, Kurt was living in Cincinnati, Ohio.

The youth proved inquisitive and forthright from the earliest days. He began grade school in Cincinnati. Therein, Kurt made few friends, though he kept loyal and close to those he did make. As to be expected, his Get of Fenris parents were very strict (and borderline racist). Kurt remained fair and honest to everyone around him, and expected the same in kind. He always remembered the day his father told him he had to go and perhaps forever, and that he had to take care of his mother. He was only six, but he recalled that day well. He was playing in the dirt and didn’t understand why his dad had to go forever. But he couldn’t bring himself to beg his dad not to go. It didn’t feel right.

Of course, his mother was taking care of him and herself just fine. They left Cincinnati, moving out to Kansas City in Kansas instead. Kurt missed his friends but made new ones within months. He accorded good grades in school despite that he felt intricately “different” from his schoolmates. His intelligence is the reason his few pals excused his general aloofness and occasional moodiness. His semi-isolating attitude at least kept him out of trouble in that inner city public school. Kurt kept his nose to the pavement, keeping himself on the honor roll in all classes, until a fateful afternoon in his senior year, 1986.

First Change & Tutelage

The young man had the misfortune of stumbling across a gangland-styled assault and battery being performed on the physical education teacher. A group of brawny teens were beating the older man senseless or worse for some inexplicable reason -- probably drug-related. Kurt passed by the locker room and heard the beating. He peeked inside and was shocked upon sight of the brutality. Blood spattered the linoleum floor. The intensity and fear and anger boiled up inside of Kurt, emotions he’d struggled to repress for years. It suddenly bubbled forth, but not as one might expect. Suddenly he was forced to duck to avoid bumping his head in the ceiling. Everything was sharper, keener, and he was covered with fur. The teens, startled, screamed in horror and fled. With that, the youth tumbled and returned to his natural human form.

However, Kurt was just as frightened. Though the Delirium hid the truth from the dusted teens’ memories, Kurt was well-aware of what happened. And he didn’t know what to think of it. His parents never mentioned any of this. Schoolbooks never mentioned any of this, although Halloween traditions were full of the myths. Kurt ran away. He fled the school grounds and into the city, and eventually into a park’s woodlands. There he wandered for three days, finding himself changing into a wolf or dread wolf-man every night. He restrained himself as tightly as he could, staying in the Shawnee Mission woods. Only his eerie lupine howls broke the silence of the forest over those days.

Eventually, Kurt strayed back home. His mother, worried sick, received him with a hug and questions about what happened, particularly to his clothing (which were quite torn). Kurt refused to say at first, but over the night he recalled that in some myths, werewolves didn’t come about from being bit by one, but through family heritage. Since he’d never even seen a wolf in real life, never mind be bitten, he decided to risk his freedom. That morning, he told his mother the truth.

To his surprise, his mother was not upset, concerned, or shocked. It was as if she expected it all along. Indeed, she immediately requested that he accompany her to the woods. They packed up as if to go camping, and to the Smithville Woods north of the city they traveled. Every night, his mother cried out to the woods that her son needed guidance. Embarrassed as a teenage son only can be of a mother’s loud words, he hid in his tent for three days…until the growling, huffing, and howling of many wolves stirred him forth in fear and curiosity. His mother handed the cub over to the werewolves that night, and Kurt went among his people to learn the ways of the Garou.

Thus began Kurt’s instruction and upbringing as one of the chosen, one of the Warriors of Gaia. He learned all about the rituals and laws of the Garou. He came to understand the purpose of Tribes and his place within werewolf society. The Sept of the Moon Lake was quite cooperative in the tutelage of a young Fenris-Get even though Fianna and Shadow Lords largely ran caern affairs. His mentor was Tor Shatterhand, a Godi Fenris-Get. He learned he was Forseti, a lawgiver of his people. Kurt felt that it was right; prior to the First Change, he imagined himself as a police officer, lawyer, or judge. In fact, he expressed his desire to possibly further his education after the Rite of Passage that would conclude his initial tutelage. Tor seemed to have no problem with that idea so long as Kurt never forgot or ignored his heritage. Until that acceptance, Kurt admitted he was reluctant about this new life. With Tor’s blessing, Kurt studied the Litany well until it was memorized. He took up the battle-training his Tribemate showed him, and cultivated his natural shapeshifting abilities. In nine months, he was ready.

So were two other cubs, and all three joined to undergo the Rite of Passage at once. One was Fianna, the other a Shadow Lord. The three were attached to a main pack of Garou preparing to assault a stronghold of vampires that were dedicated to exterminating “the Lupine threat”. They were armed with silver weapons and holed up in a shack with a reinforced bunker below just outside the city. Once the Garou located the place, they were prepared to lay waste to these long-time foes. The cubs were just support and security, to insure no enemy escaped the Garou’s wrath. The battle went well for the Moon Lake Garou, but three vampires did slip away through a secret tunnel. As they climbed out of the fox-hole, Kurt and his packmates rushed the leeches. Bullets rang out. One vampire fell, head nearly severed by the Shadow Lord’s claws.

But silver buckshot had shattered and shred even their hardy werewolf hides. The Fianna and Shadow Lord were dead. The two surviving vampires merely wounded. Kurt lay on his back, biting his lip to restrain the pain from the pellets -- pellets that had seared past human flesh. He had not shifted, knowing that he would be vulnerable to silver. As the vampires intended to move past, he launched his surprise attack. And indeed they were shocked. The Get of Fenris’ claws rent through spines and necks, slaying both before they could level their weapons. Silver shells rattled emptily into the night as Kurt savaged the cadavers, until they were as dead and unmoving as corpses were supposed to be.

He carried one of his peers’ bodies back to the caern, while the other Garou -- who suffered only one loss -- carried the other. Back at the caern, Kurt was given all the glory due his young victory, while the three dead Garou were mourned and buried properly as warriors. Kurt was welcomed into the ranks of the Garou as Cliath and instructed to choose a deed name to reflect his might. “Doom-of-Folly”, he thought, reflected well his ability to take advantage of his enemies’ mistakes and prejudices.

Early Years

So he was accorded that rank and then only three months later Kurt left the Sept to finish high school and begin university. A degree in criminal law is what he sought. Kansas City University offered the courses and he decided to stay close to home to communicate with both his mother and fellow Garou. Though the purpose of his degree was not originally certain, Kurt knew he wanted to do more with his knowledge. After all, though it would serve the Garou well to know the in’s and out’s of human laws to avoid police trouble, he wanted to live life for himself as well as for the glory of Gaia and Fenris. He refused to be a fanatical, fascist slave to someone else’s beck and command. He wanted to carve out his own place in the archives of greatness instead of following the suicidal and overdone footsteps of the berserker.

And it did not take long for Kurt to realize that a job in the police department might be best. He worked hard at college, his intelligent and studious nature earning good grades. College opened the doors to the enjoyment of beer and parties to the young man, but he never let himself be too distracted to acquire his Bachelor’s Degree in Criminal Law. From there, he sought employment in the Kansas City police department. With his education, a detective position was almost insured. He went through the police boot camp and displayed preternatural ease in the regimen that earned him some envy from fellow cadets. But his easygoing nature alleviated any rivalries, making him a natural leader. By the age of 25, Kurt was serving Kansas City’s Best, working his way through Narcotics and Vice to Homicide.

Meanwhile, Kurt managed to balance this busy, stressful career with his duties to the Garou. When he wasn’t on duty, solving crimes, or filling out reports for the police, he studied and quoted Litanical facts to the Sept of the Moon Lake. He even occasionally performed a ritual of punishment upon a transgressor of Garou law, though he was never called for any sort of execution. But the real service Kurt performed for the Sept was his ability to redirect police investigations into Garou messes. Furthermore, he began to turn his career to advantage against the werewolves’ archenemies, the undead, who had their talons sunk into human politics. He sniffed out ghouls, exposing their masters, and curing his fellow officers’ states…or having them snuffed out.

Thus, while Kurt contributed little to Sept activities, which is usually paramount for a Philodox to excel, his services without the caern did much to protect the Veil, enforce the Litany, and maintain good relations with human law enforcement. As a result, he was eligible to challenge for the Fostern rank by the age of thirty. He sought out the aging Tor Shatterhand. Tor challenged Kurt to a test of wits with a clever riddle that involved proud traditions of the Get of Fenris and the myths of Norsemen. Kurt called upon the knowledge he learned at Tor’s feet years ago and managed to answer the riddle. The Crescent Moon was content and witnessed Kurt’s ascension in rank. But, the Godi promised, Kurt’s next test might just involve the yore of the spirit world. Kurt knew he had much preparation to do if he were to have a chance at passing that test. He traveled the Shadow little, and knew little more about its denizens.

Later Years

In the mean time, Kurt returned to the dual duties at hand. In the police department, his patience in the Homicide department was sorely tested. He was assigned to a murder that took place on a corporate level. A well-to-do businessman for Caterpillar (construction machinery) had been shot in cold blood and no leads were generated. Forensics had no serious clues, and Kurt’s instinct suggested a professional hit. But his chief insisted it was a random execution; after all, the corporate officer’s wallet was missing. But the fact that no physical evidence remained troubled Kurt. Despite reprimands, Kurt continued to probe the unsolved crime. He uncovered a trail of motives back to a rival corporation heretofore unknown to be criminal in any fashion.

Kurt discovered that the victim’s business was heavy machinery and his company was outbidding the rival’s for contracts. The rival company, Conan Construction, stood to lose millions of dollars to this major competitor -- a loss that could have cost them their standing in the region. Kurt also received the cold shoulder from any corporate officers he attempted to interview. Finally, Kurt nudged precinct research to trace Conan Construction to the top. He learned that they were a subsidiary for Harold & Harold Mining Divisions, and further digging revealed that H&H was owned by none other than Pentex, inc.

Though he never heard the name before, Kurt nevertheless brought up the findings with his fellow Garou. All were shocked at the discovery, and Tor immediately left the caern. Within a couple days, Tor summoned Kurt back to the caern -- where Kurt beheld some of the fiercest-looking fighters he ever saw. All Get of Fenris, Tor explained, members of the Thunder of Mjolnir. Dedicated to fighting the Wyrm, they demanded that Kurt lead them to the headquarters for Conan Construction. Kurt did so gladly, and joined in with the massive assault that took place despite the risk to his career.

By the end of the night, Conan Construction was literally laid to waste. The bi-level building in downtown Kansas City was reduced to rubble and everyone inside massacred. This took place in 1998 -- a few years before “9/11” -- but it was nonetheless an act accorded to terrorists. The word of the day was domestic terrorists, those of Timothy McVeigh’s brand. Kurt joined in his department’s frantic search for leads -- at least until the FBI took over the investigation.

But Kurt felt good about the deed. Some might argue that not everyone working in a Pentex facility was privy to the corruption. But Kurt argued that ignorance is never an excuse. Kurt assured himself that even if the Wyrm had not set its corruption into every employee’s soul, they had nevertheless contributed to the Wyrm’s success. Just because an arms dealer doesn’t actually pull the trigger, he nonetheless contributes to murder by selling the weapons to psychopaths. Thus, Kurt felt that the deed was justified. There was no Miranda rights for the Wyrm. The Wyrm’s only right was death. Impressed with his attitude, as well as his usefulness for uncovering the Pentex subsidiary, the Get of Fenris warriors he fought with made him a member of the Mjolnir’s Thunder. Amidst a great revel of beer and partying (not to mention suspension from duty, thanks to the precinct chief), Kurt swore to give up his police work and dedicate his skills to an agenda more befitting himself and the Garou.

So he gave his two week notice and resigned from the police force. He put his saved funds to establishing his own private investigation business. Within a couple months, Office of Private Eye Glitner (OPEG as he jokingly called it for short) was up and running. He wasn’t hard up for work either. When his mother’s niece -- his cousin, Rachel Swell -- came to town, he gave her a job as secretary. She was glad for the work, and found great amusement in poking fun at how cliché Kurt ran his business sometimes. He didn’t mind though, finding joy in playing the private eye like some old film noire. Until 2001, his business propagated well, and his success was enough to make ends meet and then some. Naturally, Kurt accepted cases with careful consideration. Though he looked forward to etching a name for himself in the halls of Garou glory, he remained somewhat more aloof from caern activities. Kurt nevertheless fulfilled many of the same responsibilities as a detective for the Sept of the Moon Lake as he did when a policeman. He maintained many friends and contacts within several precincts across the city. Though he often risked his life in certain private investigations, he had to fight and defend himself rarely.

Recent Years

The only major complication to invade his life was the orphaning of his niece, Pauline Yule. Brought to his home by his aging mother, who wanted to return to Germany now that it was whole, he was asked to look after the child. He learned that both of Pauline’s parents had died fighting the Corrupter. Somewhat grudgingly, he accepted the responsibility of the precocious girl. But in six months, he bonded with the girl. Kurt realized Pauline had become like the daughter he never had, that he always been too busy to even consider. He helped her with her homework, made sure she went to school, and when he had to work long days, made sure her cousin, “Aunt Rachel” looked after her.

Indeed, life was going well for the werewolf. But he ached. Deep in his soul, Kurt longed to be with his own kind, to run through the forests, to hunt prey in the most proper, primal manner. He didn’t want to just uncover the wicked, he wanted to punish them. He didn’t want to just flip over the rock under which the Wyrm cowered -- he wanted to stomp and squash the devil into dust. Though his business continues and his unorthodox family thrives, Kurt desired a pack of his own kind. The urges continued and may always until the werewolf changed his life-style. Fenris howled, Kurt heard, and knew it is a call to war!

Past Life

Kurt’s connection to previous incarnations is limited and undeveloped. Vague memories of various warlords, cold-hearted judges, brutal barbarians, and terrible heroes of eld haunt his visions. He taps them for guidance. But in this modern era, with greater education available to temper a narrow-minded mentality, Kurt often perceives the past to avoid making some of the same mistakes his ancestors did.

Battle Scars

Class: Organ Injury
Description: The ulcer from hell
Location: Base of stomach
Origin: A silver bullet shot straight down his throat and punctured his stomach
Effects: Causes sharp stomach pains about once a day (+1 difficulty to all actions for a couple hours), especially if he eats spicy foods!

Pack

Kurt is a member of the Fangs of Shale war pack based out of the Sept of the Moon Lake. This hardy pack is composed mainly of Get of Fenris. All of the members are Ranks 1 through 4, although all are as tough, fierce, and fearless as one can expect of this Nordic-based Tribe and those they would trust as friends. Kurt himself is currently the Alpha and Candace Anderwood remains Beta. Besides Kurt and Candace, Burkhardt Sankt, Christof Isak Vassily, Gunther of the White Rose, and Mace Swat member the pack. The Fangs of Shale pay their respects to the powerful totem, Earthquake. Earthquake tests his children's strength often, and rewards them with powerful augmentations. As a result, this pack is strong and one of the Sept's greatest assets in the protection of its borders. Woe to the Wyrmlings to cross the path of the Fangs of Shale!

Totem

Mighty Earthquake is not drawn to weak Garou. But Kurt and his Fenrir pack are scarcely weak. In that token, Kurt and his brothers and sisters will serve this mighty elemental spirit well. However, the Moon Lake Protectorates and the surrounding regions are not well-known for earthquakes. While such phenomena occasionally occur, they're just not common. Earthquakes strike the region maybe once a century. Of course, when they do hit, they tend to be huge. What does their Totem know that it's not telling them...? For what purpose is it preparing these Fangs of Gaia?

Significant Other

So what if Kurt is twice Reina Karsten’s age! When they met in 2003, Reina was a headstrong Fenrir Kin who was constantly defying her protective sister’s wishes. She would go out to bars, try to get drinks, and party. Kurt reined Reina in a bit, by seducing the young woman and keeping her out of trouble. And naturally, the Forseti was attracted to the pretty blonde! A year later, she’s had a child with Kurt, and the Godi already predict the girl will be Trueborn Fenrir. The little angel was born August 2nd, 2004, and named Audrey. So with their relationship deepened to love, Reina’s sister Leena giving the pair her blessing at last, Kurt and Reina now look to marriage and a life together…as short as it may be, due to Kurt’s endless duty to the Mother and destroying the Wyrm.

Reina

Weakness
Restraint

Kurt restrains his urges to fully participate in the Garou Nation and Tribal activities. Although he wants to begin to do so, he's still heavily immersed in the human side of his life. It is only because of the great boons he performs for the Sept that he isn't penalized. But it doesn't alter the fact that he has no immediate, close friends among the Garou yet. Though he could always call for back-up from his fellow Thunders, they would take a couple days to arrive -- and they'd only come for a good reason.

Likelihood of Corruption

Average.

Kurt's restraint helps to keep the berserker rage of the Garou in check. He unleashes the fury only when battle finally rears its ugly head. In that manner, he's unusual for a Get of Fenris. But he's intelligent and prudent, not a peace-monger or coward. When battle comes, he is as fierce as his blood heritage implies.
