Foley
Howls-in-Sleep

Adren of the Fianna
Crescent Moon of the Call of Thunder
Assistant Ritemaster of the Sept of Forgotten Waters

Description

Homid: ~Foley strolls up and flashes a trademarked grin. He’s a good-looking light-skinned fella somewhere in his 20s. He keeps his auburn-brown hair short while a trimmed beard frames a narrow face. His brown eyes command a fierce and passionate glint that at once draw one in and repulse with that shameless intensity. Foley wears loose attire: jeans and a peasants’ shirt over a hairy, leanly muscled torso. He’s wiry and attentive, vigorous and rustic. But there’s also something deeply unsettling about the man, and few keep his company long.~

OOC: Appearance 3; Pure Breed 3; Mark of the Predator; Glory 2, Honor 1, Wisdom 7

Glabro: ~Suddenly, Foley’s skin thickens and darkens as if he were of Mediterranean descent. He’s still a good-looking chap, if more heavily built. His wily grin now bears a sharp-toothed menace, and he looks eager to stomp someone’s guts in.~

OOC: Appearance 3; Pure Breed 3; Mark of the Predator, Fair Glabro; Glory 2, Honor 1, Wisdom 7

Crinos: ~Foley springs up even taller. Lean and packed with beastly muscle, the man transforms into monster. Fur as black as midnight darkens his entire massive form, save for clear yellow-gold eyes. His lupine body bristles with an animal fury. Yet, Foley’s wolfish muzzle still manages to maintain a toothy grin. That proves all along that that killer smile was always ill news.~

OOC: Appearance 0; Pure Breed 3; Mark of the Predator; Delirium; Glory 2, Honor 1, Wisdom 7

Hispo: ~The werewolf seems at his most natural in this terrifying form. A huge beast with thick, dark fur, Foley now has a hungry if shrewd glaze to those golden eyes. The massive, horse-sized wolf summons up a throaty growl that sounds like it’s from the depths of Hell.~

OOC: Appearance 0; Pure Breed 3; Mark of the Predator; Glory 2, Honor 1, Wisdom 7

Lupus: ~Now, he is a large black wolf, and seemingly quite at home this way. While sighting such an animal is unusual, Foley seems otherwise innocuous. There’s an intelligence in those clear yellow eyes that seems unusual and certainly in conflict with that aggressive air of rabidity.~

OOC: Appearance 3; Pure Breed 3; Mark of the Predator; Glory 2, Honor 1, Wisdom 7

"Spirits come in every color and shape. But I like spirits who come in colors and shapes I've never even heard of!"

History

Big Woods

In 1995, Foley was born to a litter of three cubs in the Grand Bois of southeastern Minnesota. His young life was filled with joy and wonder as the cub explored the wilderness of his forest home. In the mid-90s, state and federal law protected wolves, and poachers were rarer. He had an excellent chance of reaching maturity.

Of course, Foley was not aware that his homeland was protected by more than human laws. The Big Wolves – Garou – watched over the protectorate, too. So, as his siblings and mother went about their simple lives, he began to explore…inwardly. Foley chased after will-o’-the-wisps, sniffed after rainbow butterflies, and harried innocent sprites that only he seemed able to detect. When he finally caught one, he didn’t eat it. He wanted to speak to it. He huffed at it, he barked at it, and all it did was squirm and speak in strange sounds.

Big Wolves

Something in Foley’s brain clicked. He talked back, mimicking the sprite’s sounds (words). He passed all the other forms of his true nature in an instant, and was soon cupping the little fairy in the palms of his human hands. Shocked by his transformation, the sprite escaped and flew away. He ran off into the night, shrieking and garbling incoherently, shifting forms wildly. Luckily, a Warder on patrol homed in on his racket and subdued the Cub.

Foley was brought before the Sept of the Great Tree upon a plateau. There he was greeted and welcomed, and the emotional trauma soon faded. Over the next few months, Foley was named and trained by the Sept’s Master of the Rite and high shaman, a Child of Gaia named Blessed Rock. Under Blessed Rock, Foley learned about the Garou, the enemy (the Wyrm), and the Umbra. As a Theurge, he knew his role was to communicate with the denizens of the Shadow. He looked forward to embracing that role, and studied hard to compensate for his primitive origins. Foley learned to speak English and surpassed expectations. The sept was a mixed Tribe Sept that was dominated by Children of Gaia, Black Furies, and Fianna (his Tribe).

The Right Spirit-Stuff

Even by the time his education was complete, there were no other Cubs to indoctrinate. He would have to undergo the Rite of Passage alone. Blessed Rock oversaw the task. Together, they Reached the Umbra. There Foley had to pass a simple test. Three spirits were bound by rite (and chains, in the Umbra). They had been reshaped by the powerful shaman to all resemble the same kind of wolf. Foley had to choose which wolf was the right wolf to release and follow. He was given a special mallet with which to smash the chain’s lock. None of them were happy to be chained, and snarled and growled. One paced in steady circles. Another gnawed at its own bound leg. And the third yanked and lunged at its bindings, snapping at Foley’s face.

With a shrewd grin, Foley ducked under the lunging wolf’s jaws and struck his lock open. That wolf dashed off in a blur. Foley shed his Crinos form for his breed form, eager to follow. Blessed Rock stopped Foley, praising him for the wise choice: for that was a Wyld spirit. The reshaped but securely bound Pattern Spider and Bane just glared as Foley’s Rite of Passage ended in success. Since he had no initiatory pack to run with, Foley was given over to the Ritemaster as an assistant.

Fierce Heart

For several more years, Foley happily assisted Blessed Rock in the spiritual and ritual affairs of the caern and nearby Umbra. Indeed, he never engaged in a single “real” fight his entire life. Instead, Foley waged numerous struggles against spirits, particularly contests of wills and dominance. He had a powerfully aggressive side. He was no buffoon either, and could puzzle his way through abstract omens and enigmas.

His steady work with the Umbra and maintenance of the caern and sept eventually earned him the rank of Fostern. He challenged the Warder that found him in the woods those years back, and had to prove his worth by fighting an entire pack of Kinfolk wolves without killing any of them. It was not an easy test, since they seemed instinctually bent on killing him! Foley fought hard, but used his raw strength to subdue the wolves, eventually bludgeoning them with each other’s bodies to knock the fight out of them. He was covered with wounds, but none of the Kin had perished. Thus, he was promoted to Fostern.

Call of the Dream

In time, Foley’s original “fairy” visions returned, and with urgency. Clearly, he was intended to do more than the usual spirit work. The Master of the Challenge, a fellow Fianna, suggested he visit with (and possibly move to) Reece Odell, the Master of the Sept of the Moon Lake outside of Kansas City. By foot, Foley transferred and traveled south to this new home.

For two years, Foley worked with the Sept of the Moon Lake in a role similar to his duties back at his Minnesota home. He studied under Reece, learning whatever Reece knew and was willing to impart about the faeries once allied to the Fianna werewolves. Then Foley met a faerie at last: the lovely and kind-hearted Oona. She proved immensely helpful, and Foley realized he wasn’t meant to just find out more about the fae. He was to somehow, in some way, help them become allies. When Oona moved south to New Orleans in '08, Foley also once again moved. He traveled to the region to stay close to his primary faerie friend and contact. Foley joined the Sept of Forgotten Waters, yet again an assistant Ritemaster. Soon, Oona would welcome him into her strange faerie courts, and something wonderful would happen.

Past Life

He taps these ancestral memories mainly when he daydreams in his breed form (Lupus). Foley especially recalls a number of ancient geasa alliances between the Fianna and the ancient faerie lords on Earth. He remembers glorious battles and mysterious magics: myths brought to life. Foley seeks to tap this knowledge in his pursuit of reinvigorating the old ways and old friendships.

Significant Other

Foley encountered Nuala Brennon ni Gwydion in early March of 2006. He sniffed the Sidhe out with his sense of spiritual creatures and his handy Faerie Eye. The young and impressionable noble was allured by Foley’s animal magnetism and direct, honest, and fearless nature. At first, their friendship was easygoing and relaxed. Soon enough, they hit it off, and Foley was dating the prom queen steadily, treating her like his chosen, destined mate. When she went off to college, Foley followed. When she was reassigned to another court in the New Orleans area, Foley did the same to a new Sept.

Her responsibilities increased and they got to see very little of each other. They are still dedicated to one another’s hearts. Foley hopes to learn even more of the Kithain through her, while they keep their relationship on the low-low.

Nuala

Fetishes

Faerie Eye
Level: 3
Gnosis: 8
Origin: Foley found this fetish lying in an underground warren of his original Sept’s bawn area. Nobody claimed it, so the elders let him keep it.
Description: It is a faceted carbuncle gem stone, a deep translucent red in hue.
Effects: 1) view the fae and their Glamours (and be affected by chimera and faerie magic)
Activation: 1) After attuning the fetish, he needs only raise it to his eye and peer through it. While he’s using it, he can view the fae and their strange magics, but also be affected in turn by them without necessarily being able to do anything back.

Weakness
Insatiable Dreamer

Foley has dedicated his life to reviving the memory of ancient pacts and associations with the fae. While some fae were good and trustworthy, many were more chaotic and mischievous than the most wanton Fianna trickster. He could get dragged into the intrigues of the Dreaming or worse.

Likelihood of Corruption

Average.

While Foley is greedy for knowledge, he is not an Uktena willing to sell his soul for secrets. On the other hand, he is sniffing after and meddling in powers he cannot comprehend.
